Working at the UNT IAC

The students working at the UNT IAC are composed of undergraduate and graduate students in engineering disciplines. The IAC looks for and employs top engineering students across all engineering disciplines to assess manufacturing plants and identify measures that will save energy, reduce waste, enhance productivity, and reduce operating costs. Students work for the IAC on a part-time basis and develop practical skills in thermal systems, electrical power systems, building envelope, HVAC, combustion systems, lighting technologies, smart technologies, waste management, pollution prevention technologies, and lean processing techniques. Unlike standard engineering internships and co-op programs, the IAC program exposes students to a much wider range of technical experiences and challenges that help develop the practical skills that are needed in a future career.

Benefits of Working at IAC

  • Receive direct training on energy assessment procedures, energy efficient technologies, industrial safety, and lean methodologies.
  • Learn to correctly measure, record, and analyze data at industrial sites.
  • Develop the ability to quickly identify and address technical solutions.
  • Increase proficiency in written and oral communication through professional reports and client interaction.
  • Increase ability to solve problems within real constraints including time, money, human and other resources.

Career Benefits

The practical, in-plant experiences gained through the IAC program, combined with the engineering theory learned in classrooms, allow IAC alumni to hit the ground running when they enter the professional marketplace. In regard to job placement, the IAC program produces top-quality and high-demand students who are consistently recruited and hired by private consulting firms, large energy services companies, utilities, and manufacturers. Approximately 75% of IAC students accept job positions months before leaving the program.
